Androgen receptor (AR) is a transcriptional regulatory protein which belongs to the superfamily of steroid receptors transducing the signaling information conveyed by androgens.
Somatic mutations within the AR gene are known to occur infrequently in prostate cancer prior to hormonal therapy, however they become prevalent in androgen independent and metastatic tumors (1-2).
